i watched her fall – poem by p. chatelain

i watched her fall

she told me she was “cool” with everything.
and i asked her why, feeling something was wrong,
so she said all she could do was feel like
a jealous girl living in a lonely world,
where everyone got to spend time with me
but her. she somehow made me see
what love felt like by those words.
and i think she loves me because she pains for me.
with an accidental step on my toes causing me pain,
her face grimaces as it hurts her too.
two sentences trample each other as they exit her lips,
“imsorryareyouokay?” and the pain, as always,
comes with a realization. i was watching her, slowly
noticing her falling for me.
